One-Way Smokes
One-Way Smoke: A smoke grenade positioned so you can see enemies through/over it, but they can't see you. Creates unfair advantage.
How One-Ways Work
One-way smokes exploit height differences and smoke bloom mechanics. Standing above smoke lets you see heads over it. Enemy below sees only smoke.
- Height advantage: You're elevated, they're at ground level
- Smoke placement: Smoke sits at specific position creating gap
- Your position: Stand in exact spot to see over/through
- Their view: They see solid smoke wall
Popular One-Way Spots
- Mirage A stairs: Smoke stairs, stand on site, see over smoke
- Inferno banana: Smoke top banana, hold from car/logs
- Dust2 B doors: Various one-way setups from site
- Overpass A bank: Smoke bank, hold from different elevations
Note: Many one-way smokes have been patched over CS2's lifecycle. Test in private match before using in competitive. Enemies can also counter by molotoving the one-way position.
Perfect Pop-Flashes
Pop-Flash: Flashbang that detonates almost instantly as it enters enemy line of sight, giving them no time to turn away. <0.5 second reaction time.
Pop-Flash Techniques
- Wall bounces: Flash bounces off wall into enemy
- Over throw: Flash arcs over obstacle, pops mid-air
- Quick toss: Right-click flash that pops instantly
- Running pop: Throw while moving, flash pops as you peek
Pop-Flash Best Practices
- Peek immediately: Flash and peek in same motion
- Communicate: Tell teammates when flashing
- Aim ready: Crosshair positioned before flash
- Practice timing: Know exact moment to peek
Pro Tip: The best pop-flashes flash you slightly too. Accept ~20% flash on yourself to guarantee enemy is fully blind. Better than slow flash that gives them time to turn.
Advanced Molotov/Incendiary Usage
Post-Plant Mollies (T-Side)
Denying defuse with molotovs:
- Molly lasts ~7 seconds - times perfectly with bomb timer
- Throw molly 5-7 seconds before bomb explodes
- Forces CT to either push through fire or die to bomb
- Combo with smoke to block enemy vision too
Clearing Utility (CT-Side)
Use mollies to clear common positions:
- Molly corners/cubbies before pushing
- Forces enemies out or guarantees they're not there
- Molly behind smoke to catch smoke-campers
- Delay T pushes by molotoving choke points
Molotov + Smoke Combo
Smoke extinguishes molotov instantly:
- Ts can molly position then smoke it to push immediately
- CTs waste molly if Ts have smoke to counter
- Save smoke for enemy mollies in critical situations
- Timing: Smoke clears molly, rush through smoke
HE Grenade Advanced Tactics
Stack Damage
Multiple HE grenades on same position:
- 2-3 HEs together = ~150+ damage
- Can kill armored enemies
- Throw all at once to stack damage
- Common at popular camping spots
Finishing Kills
Use HE to finish low HP enemies:
- After gunfight, HE to finish wounded enemy
- HE behind cover where enemy is hiding
- Safe kill without exposing yourself
- Works on enemies retreating
Info Gathering
HE grenades reveal positions:
- Throw HE at suspected position
- If damage shows in killfeed = enemy there
- Forces reaction (movement/sound)
- Low risk info gathering
Eco Round Damage
HE grenades crucial on eco rounds:
- Can't afford rifles, invest in HE
- Pre-damage enemies before engagement
- 87 HP enemy dies to pistol headshot
- Team coordination = massive damage
Utility Combinations
Combining multiple utilities creates devastating effects:
Smoke + Molly Execute
Smoke main angles, molly common positions, flash in, execute. Enemy can't see, can't hold molly'd spot, is flashed.
HE + Flash Follow-up
HE damages enemy, flash immediately after. Damaged enemy looking at HE explosion gets fully flashed. Easy kill.
Double Flash Entry
Two teammates flash same angle 0.5 seconds apart. Enemy turns from first flash, gets hit by second. Guarantee blind.
Fake Utility
Throw standard execute utility at one site (smokes/flashes) but don't commit. Enemy rotates, you hit other site.
Utility Economy Management
Strategic Utility Buying
- Full buy rounds: Always buy full utility (4 grenades). $1000 investment = massive advantage
- Force buy rounds: Prioritize flashes + smoke. Can skip HE/molly if needed for armor
- Eco rounds: Sometimes better to save completely than buy 1-2 grenades
- Coordinate buys: Ensure team has smokes for important lineups covered
- Utility > Better gun: M4 + full util > AUG + no util
Pro Tip: Pros often drop rifles to buy full utility. A well-util'd M4 is better than an AUG with 1 flash. Utility wins rounds.
